Success Thought of the Day – 6/21/18: Overcoming challenges

It is very easy for us to get caught up in the midst of a challenge and get discouraged, frustrated and in the end, outright want to quit.  As with all things, overcoming challenges is about how we view the situation, everything starts with our thoughts.

Parable

Joseph Sica tells a great story about a Donkey that sets the scene very well as follows:

One day a farmer’s donkey fell down into a well. The animal cried for hours as the farmer tried to figure out what to do. Finally, he decided the animal was old, and the well needed to be covered up anyway; the donkey just wasn’t worth retrieving.

He invited his neighbors to come over and help him. They all grabbed shovels and began to throw dirt into the well. At first, the donkey realized what was happening and cried horribly. Then, to everyone’s amazement, he quieted down. A few shovel loads later, the farmer finally looked down into the well. He was astonished at what he saw. With each shovel of dirt hitting his back, the donkey was doing something to help himself. He would shake it off and take a step up.

As the farmer’s neighbors continued to shovel dirt on top of the animal, he would shake it off and take another step up. Pretty soon, everyone watched as the donkey stepped up over the edge of the well and happily trotted away! They all screamed “we knew he could do it”

What I love is that the donkey simply had to outlast and outwit the shovelers, starting with his mindstate.   When I was younger, I remember the basketball player Charles Barkley once said, as it related to scoring, “I’m going to go over you, around you, or through you, but I am getting to the basket.”  That is all about attitude my friends.

No whatever the challenges are  – – shake it off and step up!

Have a blessed one!
